While drug use can serve to provide short-term gains at work and school, it often leads to significant productivity deficits. After working on these issues, many clients find that they perform better than they ever thought possible.

There are a number of legal and ethical requirements regarding confidentiality in this line of work, and Alternatives makes sure to fully honor every one of them. In short – no one in your family or work will find out about your treatment unless you sign a release or involve them in your treatment in some other way.

This is a common issue for clients that choose Alternatives instead of traditional treatment. Clients often feel that alcohol plays an important part in their life aside from their own desire to continue drinking, so we work to give clients the ability to function normally at work and in life, regardless of whether or not that includes drinking.

Family relationships are an important part of the problematic system for many of our clients. We therefore encourage family involvement, but we do understand that this is not always feasible. We make sure to tailor elements of our treatment specifically to client needs, including the amount of family involvement they wish to have.

Family conflict is common in addiction treatment and we understand that such conflict is often a big factor in the family’s daily life. To that end we make family involvement a big piece of the treatment package at Alternatives. We get the family involved from the first week on, and we have at least one family session per week throughout treatment. We also offer ongoing support for the family aside from the client. The family sessions are used to resolve conflict, teach better communication skills, and to move the family system towards where it needs to be to support ongoing addiction recovery.

Research has repeatedly shown that family participation by itself, and specifically family involvement in therapeutic sessions in treatment, is associated with significant increases in success rates.

Relapse is a pretty common part of recovery, and happens often in outpatient treatment settings. We believe that relapse can be used as an opportunity to learn about gaps in recovery that need to be addressed, and we utilize relapses as such. Treatment providers who “guarantee” success are disingenuous and are seeking a quick marketing solution. Success rates in treatment are variable based on initial client presentation, and we do our best to allow our clients to achieve whatever it is that success means in their life.

Although it isn’t mandatory for receiving treatment, we strongly encourage participation in groups at Alternatives. Research has shown that the social component and shame-reduction aspects of having a peer support system can be very important for successful treatment. However, we do understand that there are individual idiosyncrasies that need to be addressed.

Helping a loved one overcome an addiction can be tough. At Alternatives we offer ongoing support for family members aside from the client. We also offer SMART Recovery Meetings for Friends & Family that focus on developing the skills needed to assist in a loved ones recovery.

Alternatives is a structured treatment program and is recognized by all courts as an options for recovery. Most courts will allow for only the abstinence option to be explored, but there have been exceptions.

*Include link to research on monitoring.

At Alternatives we use the most advanced forms of alcohol and drug monitoring available. These include drug screenings using both urine (long-term use) and saliva (short-term use) samples, as well as ongoing breathalyzer monitoring for alcohol use. These methods have been proven to work, and can assure us that our clients are either using, not using, or within expected parameters of use. We consider these assessments an integral part of our treatment.

Depending upon the results of our initial assessment, some clients can benefit from a short-term, condensed treatment program that quickly gets at the root of the problem and helps them recover some of the self-control they feel they have lost. Our one-week intensive program gives clients access to the same intensive week that is included in the beginning of our Comprehensive Outpatient Addiction Treatment Programs. Clients spend the entire day with us from 9am until 7pm for five consecutive days. It’s like an addiction treatment bootcamp.

Alternatives does not currently provide medical detox services in house. In the initial consultation we can discuss whether or not a medical detox is necessary, and provide references for trusted local detox clinics that we have worked together with in the past. Such detox services can be provided in a hospital setting, at home, or even in a hotel when appropriate.

At Alternatives we use a method called Bio-Affective Management, which is a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Behavioral-Neuroscience informed treatment that combines several different methods to address compulsive behavior and addiction in a holistic way. Our system is based on a list of evidence-based practices specifically packaged to increase their effectiveness.

Among the Alternatives team is renowned and respected addiction experts that have decades of clinical and research experience specific to addiction and its management. Members of our staff hold Ph.D.’s, MFT’s and other relevant certifications relevant to their specific areas of expertise.

In our first session, we discuss a sequence of steps for your recovery, including the specific treatment tools that have proven to be successful at each stage. We talk to you about the possible medications that help with cravings or any other biological issues that can affect your recovery. Treatment begins with an extensive assessment that helps our staff determine the most important and relevant focus for treatment.

Many of our clients experience issues aside from substance use such as depression, anxiety and more. Our team has experience in a number of relevant fields, but a consultation will be needed to determine if our services can adequately meet your specific needs. If we cannot serve some specific needs within Alternatives we will be sure to make appropriate referrals.

At Alternatives we view every setback as an opportunity for growth. A major aspect of our treatment program involves identifying the underlying issues that led to relapse, and working the client to develop the tools and skills necessary to prevent it from happening again in the future.  Research has shown that individuals in treatment often require more than one treatment attempt to find success, which shows us that yes, trying again is incredibly useful.

In our experience we have found that interventions can cause unnecessary stress on a client. We have also found that while resistance to treatment is somewhat common in other settings, it is rarely an issue here at Alternatives. However, we will consider this option in extreme cases.

Alternatives is the only alcohol treatment program in the United States to combine over three decades of research on moderate drinking methods for alcohol abuse and compulsions with the latest technology and monitoring tools. We provide a structured outpatient program that lasts six months during which our clients go through four distinct phases of treatment. After treatment, clients can participate in our aftercare program for free. A truly alternative addiction treatment program, Alternatives is not 12-step based and is focused on empowering our clients. More importantly, when our clients graduate they are ready to live their lives relieved of the negative consequences and emotional pain that their drinking and negative habits had been causing before.

During the first 48-hours of treatment we give clients a full medical evaluation and psychological assessment. We will discuss any medication related concerns that you might have, and if needed can refer you to trusted medical doctors in the area.

We strive to make the treatment environment as comfortable as possible. Our offices were specifically designed to reduce the feeling of “treatment” while inducing a feeling of “care.”

We have a minimum of four staff members dedicated to working with each and every client.

We work with clients to develop a program schedule that fits their lifestyle helping to accommodate work and other obligations. When appropriate, we also offer a shortened Two-Month Intensive Outpatient Program that compresses much of our standard program into a shorter time period.

Yes. After treatment has been completed, further individual sessions can be scheduled as needed, and all Alternatives clients have lifelong access to our weekly support groups without charge.

We work with most major health insurance companies. Our staff can help to verify insurance benefits to determine how much of the treatment costs will likely be covered. We also offer affordable payment options through the American Healthcare Lending company (click here for a quick funding application).

After our initial consultation clients usually enter treatment within a week’s time.

Many of the clients that choose Alternatives for treatment have busy personal and professional lives. By providing our treatment in an outpatient setting we are able to work with clients on real-life challenges as they present themselves rather than isolating them in a residential setting that bares little resemblance to their everyday lives. During the initial consultation, our clinicians will discuss the different treatment options with clients and help them come to an informed conclusion about which length of treatment is appropriate for their specific needs.

Alternatives can help arrange accommodations for clients that range from short stays to full multi-month sober-living arrangements. We’ll work with you to make the decision and transition as easy as possible.

Although we do offer “rehabilitation” services at Alternatives, we do not consider ourselves a “rehab” in the traditional sense. Our treatment is provided in an outpatient setting, which means clients are not forced to live in our facilities. Clients are treated with respect and dignity in a setting that is at once beautiful, comfortable, and convenient. From our sound isolated Neurofeedback room with surround sound and flat screen TV’s, to our mindfulness/meditation chamber, our treatment environment lets clients relax while benefiting from the best treatment in a place that feels inviting rather than cold and clinical. At Alternatives, you’ll feel like part of our family rather than patients (and we never call our clients patients).

http://addictionalternatives.com/our-philosophy/

There are specific types of substance use that often seem to go hand-in-hand, and alcohol and cocaine are a couple of them. However, we do know that a substantial portion of people that use substances can revert to non-problematic drinking. To that end, our Moderate Drinking program has been designed to allow individuals to examine, in a controlled setting with support, whether this is really a possibility for them or not.

At Alternatives, we believe that clients should play an active role in their treatment, and that includes having a voice in setting their treatment goals. We believe that the assumption that anyone with a substance use problem requires the “addict” label and is expected to remain abstinent for life is unrealistic and damaging to the millions of people who struggle with alcohol and drug use.

The Alternatives program offers clients a choice that rarely gets mentioned in addiction treatment – the choice to learn how to control their drinking. Alternatives uses our proprietary Bio-Affective Management system to teach clients about the relationship between their drinking and the biological and emotional factors in their life. Studies have repeatedly shown that allowing individuals to pick their treatment approach and goals greatly increases their odds of success. At Alternatives, we’re all about success, not dogma.

Ask yourself “Does my substance or alcohol use result in unwanted negative consequences in my everyday life?” If you’re answer is yes, we recommend that you research some treatment options. Our assessment package will help those who are wondering discover much more about their true needs in just 48 hours. At Alternatives, we make certain that the if the answer is treatment, clients are not forced into traditional approaches, but are instead helped to find their own way to a better life.
